A Japanese spiritual practitioner seeks relief from an all-consuming fear from three village women who tell him of a scheme that will trap a Buddhist monk in a dream in exchange for his healing. A spirit fox, who has a loving devotion to the unsuspecting Buddhist monk, intervenes in the scheme by consulting with the King of All Night's Dreaming to take the monk's place.
