Sun Wu Kong, after five centuries of punishment by Buddha, frees himself from beneath Five-Finger Mountain with the help of the Goddess of Mercy. He meets a priest named San Zang, whom he joins on a journey to the West in search of Buddhist scriptures, but San Zang is unaware that one of the biggest dangers he will face on his journey is his violent and impetuous new travelling companion.
Sun Wu Kong, the Monkey King, continues to antagonize the Jade Emperor and his allies until the gods give in and offer him the title Emperor of Heaven, which he is already calling himself, and give him guardianship over a Heavenly peach orchard. When he continues his antics and angers the Jade Emperor again, a new military campaign against him begins that brings Sun Wu Kong face-to-face with the one being who might end his mischief--Buddha himself.
San Zang is captured by the Ling Gan Demon, which has been tormenting the small village of HuiYuan, and now it is up to Wu Kong, Bajie, and Wu Jing to save their master, liberate the village, and more before continuing west.
As San Zang and his disciples continue to the West, they must all take part in a seemingly endless battle of wits where anything less than victory means losing more than just the contest.
Having barely survived their most recent and difficult test, San Zang and his disciples must now pass through the treacherous Fire Cloud Kingdom, where an infant king with tremendous power aims to become the first monster to taste San Zang's flesh.
A fable in which Santiago, a young Andalusian shepherd, leaves his home in Spain to search for worldly treasures, but the most important treasure he finds is the wisdom to listen to his own heart.
