Twins Felix and Maisie, along with their Great-Aunt Maisie and Great-Uncle Thorne, are transported back in time to Coney Island where they meet a young Harry Houdini.

Felix tries to impress his crush Lily, who was adopted from China, by trying to take her back in time to learn about her native country, but when his twin Maisie catches him, the it is only the twins who are transported to a small village on the Yangtze River during the time just before the Boxer Rebellion, where they are chased by bandits and must flee to Shanghai.

An old coin in The Treasure Chest transports twins Felix and Maisie to the island of St. Croix in 1772, where they meet seventeen-year-old Alexander Hamilton who is about to embark on a journey to New York.

Twelve-year-old twins Felix and Maisie choose to stay with their mother when their parents get divorced and move into the attic of a historic mansion in Newport, Rhode Island, where they discover a hidden room filled with secrets.
