Presents biographical and career profiles of ten artists of Colonial America, each with information on the individual's artistic development, as well as the cultural and social context in which he or she worked. Includes color illustrations of examples of Colonial American art.

Examines the identities of artists attributed to the most famous and influential works of medieval art, examining the lives and works of the era's leading artists.

Surveys the art produced during the World War II era in China, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, the Soviet Union, Spain, and the United States, each with an introductory essay that looks at the art scene prior to the conflict, and including approximately five biographies of selected artists.
