Louise Canova feels the uncertainty and insecurity of her youth coming back to haunt her when her actor husband becomes more distant, until she finds a faded book entitled "Elegance", which seems to hold the answer to all her problems.
Eighteen-year-old Evie leaves her small town in Ohio to study acting in London in 1986. She immediately becomes friends with well-behaved Imogen and reckless Robbie. Fifteen years later, Evie is a drama teacher and haunted by the ghost of Robbie who was killed in a car accident.
