Tres Navarre, a private investigator who just happens to have a Ph.D. in English literature, steps in to fill the void when a controversial English professor at the University of Texas is murdered, but he decides to take on a little extracurricular work when the evidence against the prime suspect in the killing begins to look a little too perfect.

San Antonio private investigator Tres Navarre agrees to help an old friend who has been accused of murder, but as Tres investigates his friend's claims, he begins to wonder if his loyalties are misguided.
