Edward Logan recounts his experiences serving as a B-17 pilot in the 15th Air Force in Italy during World War II, chronicling his two years of training, entry into combat, and years as a bomber pilot in Europe, and focusing on an operation that resulted in his plane going down behind enemy lines, forcing Logan and his crew to evade enemy troops and return to their base.

Recreates the author's years as a B-17 bomber pilot flying missions over northern Italy, German, and Bulgaria during World War II. Ultimately he was shot down and taken prisoner.
