Cole Richards, in his fourth year of karate training, is preparing for the test that will move him to the next belt level when his dojo announces a "create-your-own-kata" contest, and between trying to decide which competition to enter, and dealing with tensions with peers and friends, Cole begins to get too stressed.

The Grizzlies' first baseman is benched before the playoffs and the teams catcher, Manny, and Stu, the second baseman, take it upon themselves to help train his replacement, but a wild throw causes Stu to have ahead injury, which the boys try to hide, until Stu starts to act strangely.

Julian Pryce, who used to be the star center for the Tornadoes basketball team, is forced to sit on the bench when his family moves and the new school team already has a starting center, Paul Boyd, who ends up in the hospital after Julian takes extreme measures.
