Ethan Whitley, the insecure, seventeen-year-old son of Stanford professors, is sent to the prestigious Berkley Academy, a co-ed prep school in Massachusetts, for his senior year, where he is befriended by the wealthy Todd Eldon and enigmatic English teacher Hannah McClellan, who introduce Ethan to a world of privilege and desire that could spell disaster if he is not careful.
