Emma wakes up in Britain one morning to a world that has been drastically shattered, with no mail, telephone, or radio--and an American warship in the harbor--and as she examines her surroundings, she and her grandmother try to piece together clues about a supposedly friendly military occupation that may threaten their heritage.
