A concise, informative, well organized history of the ancient peoplesif the Near East, giving descriptions of the first known inhabitants, explanations of the development of their governments, followed by chapters about Sumarians, Babylonians, Assyrians, and Persians. A good introduction to the lands of Hammurabi, Nebuchadrezzar, Darius I, and Xerxes.

To this day, one thinks of the Vikings as raiders, adventurers and seamen, and so they were. But they had homes and families too, and besides being seamen, many of them were also farmers.
