Gift horse / Mackall, Dandi Daley

Winnie Willis, a twelve-year-old girl with a gift for handling horses, finds an old mare in the pasture behind her house and struggles to keep the animal alive, reassure her father, and protect her heart from getting hurt if the horse should die or its owner appear.

This Christmas proves to be a matter of life and death when a sick and pregnant horse shows up in Winnie's pasture, and she must find the strength to care for both mother and foal in their time of need.
