Daughters of the sea

Hannah longs to be a normal woman but she's not. Now she can see a tracing of scales on her legs and notices how waves comfort her. Her two sisters have been separated from her due to a violent storm and have gone their separate ways. Hannah grew up in an orphanage, but now is a humble maid of a wealthy family. Through a series of special encounters Hannah learns that she must make a choice between the land and the sea.

In 1899 on an island off the coast of Maine, fifteen-year-old May learns why she has always felt different from the other girls in her small town, but must keep hidden that she is a mermaid or risk attracting the attention of a dangerous hunter, and losing a boy for whom she cares.

Lucy, languishing in stuffy New York society, travels with her family to a seaside community where she learns some hidden truths about herself and her family. Her social-climbing parents push her to marry someone within their own social standing but Lucy has met and fallen in love with a shipbuilder who shares her love of the sea. Her mother plots to keep them apart no matter what she has to do including murder and a web of lies.
