After escorting Elsa and Evan back to Tereo, Lawrence and Holo devise a plan that will help the townsfolk solve their problems and give them the "miracle" they need.

Hoping to learn more about Holo's homeland, Holo and Lawrence stop by a small church to glean information from the local deaconess. When they are turned away, however, they decide to investigate and realize they have stumbled into a difficult situation involving a nearby village.

The traveling merchant Lawrence and his companion, Holo the Wisewolf, seek to turn a huge profit on a currency scheme in the town of Pazzio, but they are discovered and Holo is abducted and is threatened to be exposed to the Church.

The young merchant Kraft Lawrence has only his carthorse for a companion, traveling the back roads in search of wealth through his trade in meat, seed, fur pelts, and anything else he can get his hands on. It is a monotonous life but Kraft loves it, until one night he discovers a harvest goddess sleeping under a sheet in his cart, disguised as a beautiful girl with wolf ears and a tail. Naming herself Holo, the girl joins Kraft on his travels, hoping someday to return to her home in the north, but for now content with having adventures on the merchants' road.

Maka and Soul go to Dr. Stein for training. While Maka is determined to become stronger so that Soul is not hurt again, Soul is reluctant to seek power because of his strange nightmares.
