The Walker children's struggle to fit in at a new school is complicated by the return of Dahlia Kristoff, who casts Brendan, Eleanor, and Cordelia back into book worlds, from which escape will be more difficult than before.

Dahlia Kristoff, the Wind Witch, has been banished, and the Walker children are attending a prep school, but they find themselves unhappy and wishing for things to go back to how they used to be. Meanwhile, Denver Kristoff is searching for his daughter Dahlia, and the Walker children will again be put in danger as they go on a mysterious journey through Kristoff's books.
