Bill Nye the Science Guy

Ocean life
1996
In this video Bill Nye goes underwater to talk about ocean ecosystemsand the importance of small organisms such as coral, plankton, and kelp. Marine biologist Karen Montano takes a troop of kids to explore tide pools, which she calls "nurseries of the sea", and meet the water creatures living in these shallow pools. This video discusses plankton as well as the eating habits of the baleen whales. This video also contains an experiment to illustrate the filtering function of the baleen in a whale's mouth.

Respiratory and circulatory systems

2004
Explores the respiratory and circulatory systems of the human body. Beginning with the respiratory system, the complex process of breathing is explored. Animated graphics depicts the passage of oxygen from the nose to the lungs where the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide occurs. Describes the functions of cardiovascular system, examining the function of the heart, blood, and blood vessels. Also discusses the importance of diet and exercise in maintaining the health of the respiratory and circulatory systems.

Bones and muscles

1995
What's the deal with this joint? Oh, it's the bones and muscles show! The Science Guy is breaking all traditions, to show you how bones and muscles support, protect, and move our bodies. It's a prosthetics party, but what's the deal with that Bone Boy guy?.

A beautiful question

finding nature's deep design
2015
Does the universe embody beautiful ideas? Artists as well as scientists throughout human history have pondered this "beautiful question." With Nobel laureate Frank Wilczek as your guide, embark on a voyage of related discoveries, from Plato and Pythagoras up to the present. Wilczek's groundbreaking work in quantum physics was inspired by his intuition to look for a deeper order of beauty in nature. In fact, every major advance in his career came from this intuition: to assume that the universe embodies beautiful forms, forms whose hallmarks are symmetry--harmony, balance, proportion--and economy. There are other meanings of "beauty," but this is the deep logic of the universe--and it is no accident that it is also at the heart of what we find aesthetically pleasing and inspiring. As he reveals here, this has been the heart of scientific pursuit from Pythagoras, the ancient Greek who was the first to argue that "all things are number," to Galileo, Newton, Maxwell, Einstein, and into the deep waters of twentieth-century physics. Gorgeously illustrated, A Beautiful Question is a mind-shifting book that braids the age-old quest for beauty and the age-old quest for truth into a thrilling synthesis. Yes: the world is a work of art, and its deepest truths are ones we already feel, as if they were somehow written in our souls.--From publisher description.

Summer science

2018
"Acadia Greene wants answers. Who keeps stealing her blueberries just as they ripen on the bushes? Why is her hair curly? Why does the sun wake her up so early in the summer? Why does the tide submerge her sandcastles? How do rocks become sand? Acadia doesn't set out to do science, but she has these important questions and her scientist parents refuse to simply feed her the answers. 'Conduct an experiment,' they tell her. 'Use the scientific method.' So Acadia gathers evidence, makes hypotheses, designs experiments, uses the results to test her hypotheses, and draws conclusions"--Provided by publisher.
