Family man Michael Ahearn, a professor of literature at a small college in the upper Midwest, allows his search for the sublime to lead him into disaster when he becomes infatuated with new faculty member Lara Purcell and follows her back to her native island of St. Trinity, a place rife with political intrigue and superstition.
