Victoria Torres, unfortunately average

Now that it is summer Victoria Torres and her friends have all signed up to play co-ed softball in their town's league, but soon things start to go wrong--her father is the coach of her team (the Chihuahuas), her friend Jenny is on a rival team, and worst of all her nemesis, bossy Annelise, is her teammate and competitor for the position of pitcher.

Victoria Torres is the fifth chair out of nine flutes in her middle school band, so when the director asks for someone to play the new piccolo, Victoria sees it as her chance to stand out, but her best friend Bea has also volunteered, and their friendship may not survive the competition when they audition for the part.

Victoria Torres is not the best math student, so when her older sister, Sofia, captain of their middle school math team, co-opts her to fill in for a team member who quit Vicka is not sure how to feel--she would certainly like to help the team win the conference trophy, but first she must get Sophia to see that it is her aggressive bossiness that is alienating the other team members.

Victoria would like to play Juliet in her class's production of Romeo and Juliet, (especially since her crush, Drew, is cast as Romeo) but her friend Julia gets the part, and she resigns herself to the part of Friar Laurence--but bossy Annelise's jealousy threatens to sabotage the whole performance.

Victoria Torres is new to middle school and she decides that being a cheerleader is the key to popularity--but the competition is stiff, especially since it includes the awful, bossy Annelise and even with the support of her best friend, Bea, Victoria needs to work on both her cartwheels and her confidence.
