Now that it is summer Victoria Torres and her friends have all signed up to play co-ed softball in their town's league, but soon things start to go wrong--her father is the coach of her team (the Chihuahuas), her friend Jenny is on a rival team, and worst of all her nemesis, bossy Annelise, is her teammate and competitor for the position of pitcher.

Victoria Torres is the fifth chair out of nine flutes in her middle school band, so when the director asks for someone to play the new piccolo, Victoria sees it as her chance to stand out, but her best friend Bea has also volunteered, and their friendship may not survive the competition when they audition for the part.
