Twelve-year-old Yasmin, a talented point guard on her school basketball team, learns about teamwork and standing up for oneself when she experiences racism at her new middle school.

Eighth-grader Ellie is a veteran on her volleyball team, but this year she is frustrated because she is having trouble with her footwork, and she hopes that getting involved with coaching the younger girls in the newly organized after-school group at the Boys and Girls Club will help her work through her problems, besides, it is fun and she was instrumental in setting it up.

It is never easy to be the new kid in school-or on the basketball team. But when Yasmin Jones faces racism from one of her new teammates, she insists on dealing with it on her own. Her solution is to prove to her new team that she is a star player. As pressure builds, though, Yasmin's game suffers. How can Yasmin address her problems on and off the court?.

Thirteen-year-old Aniyah's mother and all of her aunts went to historically Black universities and were drill and step team members, but Aniyah does not like performing and has avoided stepping, until her friend Stacy convinces her that now they are entering eighth grade they should both join the school step club which does not compete; Aniyah discovers that stepping can be fun--but when the club decides to enter a competition all of Aniyah's fears come back and she wants to quit.

When Liv Sutcliffe's hair-trigger temper gets her tossed off her beloved soccer team and alienates her best friend, Liv realizes that she has to do something about her anger issues; so she takes a class in mindfulness and ends up coaching her teacher's son, Damien, in soccer moves--but will her efforts at anger management be successful enough get her reinstated before the big game?.

Late for practice at the ice arena, thirteen-year-old Eva Chen neglects to warm up and suffers a concussion when she falls during a difficult jump; frustrated at missing practice time, and worried about doing her routine at the family showcase, in front of a full arena, her parents, and her grandmother, Eva does not need any extra threats to her confidence--for instance, discovering that some of the other girls are laughing at her Chinese heritage.

Eighth-grader Layla's dedication to volleyball puts her algebra grade at risk, as well as her chance of making the high school team.

As an eighth grader, Suzy has just joined the high school gymnastics team, so she is crushed when she gets injured and can't practice or compete. Meanwhile her mother wishes she wouldn't participate in gymnastics and would focus her efforts on her piano playing instead. Facing pressures from her team, her coach, and her mother, Suzy has to take charge of her own destiny. Can she make a comeback in time to help her team defeat its biggest rival?.

Because she is now over six feet tall everybody expects Juniper to be good at basketball, especially her demanding coach (who also happens to be her father)--but she is not sure that she even likes basketball, and she definitely does not like the pressure that she feels when she misses a shot and her father benches her.

Twelve-year-old Addison Jones would love to try out for the track team, and she knows that she is faster than the other girls, but her single mom is working two jobs and every day after school Addison has to take care of her little brother. Without telling her mom, Addison and her best friend, Sofia, work out a plan that will allow her to run, but soon the strain and guilt of lying to her mother begins to take its toll.
