Mahindan and his six-year-old son, Sellian, finally escape the bloody civil war in Sri Lanka on a rusty cargo ship, together with 500 other refugees. They reach Vancouver Island safely, but then the trouble starts when authorities accuse their group, the "boat people," of harboring members of a terrorist group. Mahindan fears the things he had to do, desperately, to survive and escape Sri Lanka have finally caught up to him, and fears for Sellian's future.
