Takashi Natsume, a high school student with supernatural abilities, begins to make friends at school and agrees to join in a test of courage at an old abandoned high school inhabited by a spirit that has a special hatred for humans.

Natsume's home is attacked by a yokai who claims that Natsume stole her ring when she came to get her name back. Unless he can find the ring in time, he may find himself homeless.

Takashi has to put aside his efforts to free the names his grandmother trapped in her book to join Nyanko in tracking a black Nyanko-sensei look-alike, who stole the Book of Friends, into the woods, where they witness a secret yokai meeting.

Takashi experiences a new challenge when he accidentally releases a yokai the night before the school festival and must get rid of it without Nyanko-sensai backing him.

Takashi investigates when he discovers that a human is attacking yokai and stealing their blood. He finds the case growing increasingly dangerous, however, when his search for information leads him into the occult world of the exorcists.

After Takashi rescues a young boy named Kai from a locked box in an abandoned house, he must discover if Kai, who has been complaining about being chased by ghosts, can see yokai too, or if something else is going on.

Takashi believes he has been able to balance yokai and friends, but finds it difficult to keep spirits and demons at bay while studying with classmates at a country inn.

While he is enjoying a quiet afternoon in the forest, an an angry spirit tries to possess Takashi, who fends off the attack but gets caught up in tracking down an evil spirit that threatens the life of the forest. What the yokai is not telling him, however, is going to mean trouble for Takashi.

Seven-year-old Sam, unhappy he has to spend two weeks on a ranch with his strict grandfather, has a change of heart when he begins to learn things about his father, who died when Sam was a baby, and uses his horse riding skills to rescue his grandpa.

As he watches his grandfather prepare for a memorial service, a young boy learns what it was like to serve in war.
