THE LEATHERSTOCKING SAGA is a 1954 condensation by Professor Alan Nevins of Columbia University of five novels by James Fenimore Cooper (1789 - 1851). Collectively called THE LEATHERSTOCKING TALES (Leatherstocking is one of many nicknames of Nathaniel "Natty" Bumppo, the hero of the series).
