Based on John Knowles' novel, this involving a young man's first glimpse of adult emotions and motivations is compelling in both plot and perfomrance. Gene and Finny are roommates at prep school at the begining World War II. Jealous of Finny's popularity, Gene betrays his roommate and is responsible for a crippling accindent in a moment of anger and trachery. The repercussions of his act bring Gene face to face with his inner nature and its symbolic parallel to men at war.
