In an unnamed town in Northern Ireland during the 1970s, the middle sister of a family stands out because she's different: she reads while walking, and takes French night classes in the city. When a local paramilitary named Milkman starts pursing her, rumors spread that incite violence. Although nothing happens between them, the middle sister's inaction has consequences for all of them.
