The authenticity project

2020
"A story about a solitary green notebook that brings together six strangers and leads to unexpected friendship, and even love. . . 'Everybody lies about their lives. What would happen if you shared the truth?' This is the question that Julian Jessop, an eccentric, seventy-nine-year-old artist, poses within a pale green exercise book that he labels The Authenticity Project, before leaving it behind in Monica's Caf?. When Monica discovers Julian's abandoned notebook, not only does she add her own story to the book, she is determined to find a way to help Julian feel less lonely. And so it goes with the others who find the green notebook that will soon contain their deepest selves"--Provided by publisher.

Iona Iverson's rules for commuting

2022
"Every day Iona, a larger-than-life magazine advice columnist, travels the ten stops from Hampton Court to Waterloo Station by train, accompanied by her dog, Lulu. Every day she sees the same people, whom she knows only by nickname: Impossibly-Pretty-Bookworm and Terribly-Lonely-Teenager. Of course, they never speak. Seasoned commuters never do. Then one morning, the man she calls Smart-But-Sexist-Manspreader chokes on a grape right in front of her. He'd have died were it not for the timely intervention of Sanjay, a nurse, who gives him the Heimlich maneuver. This single event starts a chain reaction, and an eclectic group of people with almost nothing in common except their commute discover that a chance encounter can blossom into much more. It turns out that talking to strangers can teach you about the world around you--and even more about yourself"--Provided by publisher.

The authenticity project

Seventy-nine-year-old widower and artist Julian Jessop discusses the truth of his lonely life in a green journal and leaves it in a local cafe, as an invitation to others to express their truth. Monica, the cafe owner, finds it and writes her own entry, passing the notebook on to another location in the area. The green notebook touches the hands of seven other individuals from around the world, who express their own struggles and eventually gather together in person at Monica's cafe.
