Nicolaos is commissioned to find the assassin responsible for the death of Ephialtes, the politician who had turned Athens into a democracy days before, but with Pericles, Ephialtes former lieutenant, looking over his shoulder, and his twelve-year-old brother, Socrates, making frequent suggestions, Nicolaos wonders if he can solve the case and save democracy.
