Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield, twin sisters and the best dancers in their ballet class, both want to dance the solo in the class recital, but Jessica is convinced Elizabeth will get it because she is the teacher's pet.

Elizabeth and Jessica are starting middle school together, but the twin sisters soon realize they have different interests and it is good to become their own person.

Elizabeth wins the lead part in an upcoming ballet recital, but Jessica believes she's the better dancer. As Jess wrestles with her jealousy, Elizabeth realizes that Jess is right and concocts a plan to help her get noticed by their ballet teacher.
