A guide to developing an ACTING OUT program, a means of offering theater skills/counseling groups for adolescents; discussing the importance of leader training, experience, and intention, and featuring a set of eight topics or themes, each with its own list of scenarios.

Provides theater group leaders approximately fifty activities to improve the skills and comfort-level of adolescent theater performers, plus chapters covering theater vocabulary and goals, and how to organize and maintain a dramatics program for junior high schoolers.

Contains interviews and essays in which at-risk youth describe how two arts programs helped them tell their life stories and better understand themselves and includes the script to a creative nonfiction drama.
