Seventh-inning stretch

Rutherford, Minnesota Chief of Detectives Jake Hines, trying to keep a handle on a rash of minor felonies by a gang of scam artists, suddenly finds himself with a murder investigation on his hands when the leader of the criminals is found beaten to death.
