Joel Deveraux, a corporate litigator at a New York law firm, is asked to assist Myra Goldstein, an enigmatic lawyer, on an important case involving the shooting of a white college student in the projects, and his involvement brings up issues from problems he had with a paralegal who overdosed on herione years ago.
