In 1936 Middle Swan, Colorado, eighty-six-year-old Hennie Comfort befriends seventeen-year-old Nit Spindle, who recently lost a daughter and whose husband works on a dredge boat, by inviting her into her knitting circle and passing down stories about the small town.
