Contains the memoir of an employee of the Hudson's Bay Company. Impulsively applying to the company when he was sixteen, Maurice was sent to an isolated trading post among the Inuits of Canada. He recalls coming of age there, learning more about the Inuit way of life until he becomes a trusted member of the village.
