Anita Blake, a licensed vampire executioner in an alternate Earth where preternatural beings coexist with humans, is summoned to New Mexico by Edward, a monster hunter to whom she owes a favor, who needs help determining who or what is committing the gruesome crimes that leave victims dismembered and skinned alive.
