After Wu Kong's temper causes damage and wastes San Zang's time, San Zang banishes Wu Kong, but the travelers may not make it without Wu Kong.

Escaping from danger yet again, San Zang and his disciples arrive at the temple of Zhen Yuan, the world's most distinguisted Taoist and the owner of the magical RenShen tree. The secret of the tree's fruits, however, brings out the worst of Bajie's and Sun Wu Kong's natures, the consequences of which they must all deal with.

Having overcome numerous obstacles on their journey to the West, companions Sun Wu Kong, San Zang, and Zhu Bajie face three new trials that will test their fidelity, their compassion, and their individual impulses. If they fail, their journey is doomed; if they succeed, they will gain strength and a final addition to their party.

Sun Wu Kong and San Zang encounter constant danger after crossing out of the Tang Dynasty, and San Zang is forced to keep his companion from causing trouble and keep the gods appeased as well as dealing with threats from both monsters and people. They have found fortune in their travels, however, and gain an unlikely new companion on their journey West.

Sun Wu Kong, after five centuries of punishment by Buddha, frees himself from beneath Five-Finger Mountain with the help of the Goddess of Mercy. He meets a priest named San Zang, whom he joins on a journey to the West in search of Buddhist scriptures, but San Zang is unaware that one of the biggest dangers he will face on his journey is his violent and impetuous new travelling companion.

Sun Wu Kong, the Monkey King, continues to antagonize the Jade Emperor and his allies until the gods give in and offer him the title Emperor of Heaven, which he is already calling himself, and give him guardianship over a Heavenly peach orchard. When he continues his antics and angers the Jade Emperor again, a new military campaign against him begins that brings Sun Wu Kong face-to-face with the one being who might end his mischief--Buddha himself.

San Zang is captured by the Ling Gan Demon, which has been tormenting the small village of HuiYuan, and now it is up to Wu Kong, Bajie, and Wu Jing to save their master, liberate the village, and more before continuing west.

As San Zang and his disciples continue to the West, they must all take part in a seemingly endless battle of wits where anything less than victory means losing more than just the contest.

Having barely survived their most recent and difficult test, San Zang and his disciples must now pass through the treacherous Fire Cloud Kingdom, where an infant king with tremendous power aims to become the first monster to taste San Zang's flesh.

Presents a historical graphic novel about the last reign and collapse of the Han dynasty from 206 B.C. to 220 A.D., and now a new group of heroes must rise to save China.
