In their ninth journey through the magic mirror Abby and Jonah find themselves in the tale of Aladdin, and after giving the hero of the story a bloody nose in a game of dodge ball, they take his place with the evil magician looking for the magic lamp--and things continue to go down hill from there.

Abby and Jonah take a trip through the magic mirror and finally end up in Jack and the beanstalk (which happens to be Jonah's favorite story ever)--but things soon start to go wrong, and the children have to try and set the tale right, even if it means trading their dog, Prince, for the magic beans, climbing the beanstalk (three times!), and reaching an amicable settlement with the giants (Magnus and Philippa, who are really quite nice), and the sneaky trader, Devin, to get their dog back.

Abby is worried because Jonah has the fairy Maryrose's memories mixed up with his own, but when they try to talk to her they get sucked through the mirror and find themselves in the story of The Frog Prince.

Rachel and her younger sister, both witches, spend the summer at Camp Wood Lake, where Rachel tries to have a normal camp experience while surreptitiously honing her newly discovered talents.

Dory and her friends from Ms. Starr's Upside-Down Magic class set off on an overnight school field trip to Dragon Haven to see, and learn how to care for, dragons--unfortunately there are other students with regular magic there as well, so it is not long before the trouble starts.

Abby tries to use the magic mirror to get to her friend's house, but she ends up with her brother in the tale of Little Red Riding Hood; where, having accidently knocked out the Huntsman, they set out to save Red (named Lali) and her rather unpleasant grandmother themselves--but end up having to save the wolf (who actually seems a lot nicer then Lali's grandmother), and discovering a surprising secret about their own Nana.

In this trip through the magic mirror, Abby and Jonah find themselves in the tale of Hansel and Gretel, where they have to deal with the witch and hope the portal will open so they can get home.
