Free as a bird

Following the death of her grandmother, Ruby Jean Sharp, who was born with Down syndrome, is sent to live at Woodlands School in British Columbia. As she learns to endure the boredom, loneliness, and abuse she encounters there, she finally finds a lesson in perseverance after speaking to an old resident of the school.
