The war between the Hater and Unchanged factions draws to an end, and while hundreds of Hater fighters are led by Hinchcliffe and settle in the abandoned towns on the East Coast, Danny McCoyne, who has a unique ability he uses to hunt the remaining Unchanged, faces a confrontation that will affect the remains of the human race.
