Detective Inspector Annie Cabbot investigates an apparent suicide when a man found hanging from a tree is identified as Mark Hardcastle, the local amateur theater company's set and costume designer, and when Mark's lover is found beaten to death in his home, Annie calls in help from Chief Inspector Alan Banks.
