Raphael and the noble task

Raphael, one of the ferocious stone griffins sworn to guard the Cathedral, gets to fulfill his longing to perform a noble task when he assumes the care of a child abandoned at the Cathedral door, but he faces a real dilemma when the baby's mother returns.
