Nikolai Hoffner, a veteran detective with the Berlin police in the waning days of World War I, struggles to learn the truth when his investigation of the murders of four women is complicated by the discovery of the body of Socialist revolutionary Rosa Luxemburg, whose corpse bears similar markings as those found on the earlier victims.
