Presents an historical novel starring Harriet Beecher Stowe, imagining her life in the first years of her marriage to Calvin Stowe. Harriet thought she could be both a wife and a writer and imagined her marriage to Calvin as one filled with romance and, in due time, a family. Two months after their wedding, Harriet finds she is pregnant, and Calvin is about to leave for a business trip in Europe. Nothing turns out as she had expected.
