Pressia, living with her grandfather in rubble after the apocalypse in a world in which she must either join the militia or become a live target, meets Partridge, a boy who escaped the apocalypse unharmed and has been living in the Dome, where he and the other Pures are kept safe, and together they set out to find Partridge's mother, who may still be alive.
