Tess was comfortable with her sheltered life in rural Iowa, but when her military father moves her family to Texas, she is forced out of her comfort zone. When Leonetta is assigned as her mentor at her new school, she becomes Tess's guide as well as her friend. Tess is challenged to confront her reluctant nature to find the acceptance she desperately desires.
