Edward Elric and his brother Alphonse try to discover why they no longer possess alchemical powers, traveling to fort Briggs in the frozen north, and Scar and Kimblee face each other on a moving train.

Edward and Alphonse Elric, physically altered by their dabblings in alchemy, become agents of the government whose demands put them in touch with a world of evil alchemists, all in search of the Philosopher's Stone.

The origin of the Elric brothers, the beginning of their training, and the price they paid for trying to resurrect the dead is finally revealed, and Edward and Alphonse have returned to the woman who taught them alchemy, hoping she will help them find the truth.
