Jessie, Max and Cooper investigate the disappearance of Cooper's friend Enrique and his sisters, as well as a series of robberies for which the police believe Enrique is responsible, as Jessie continues to regain her strength after her bone marrow transplant.
Although in remission, Jessie's leukemia makes it hard for her to make friends, so when she hits it off with the wild and adventurous Max, Jessie wants to report that Max's guardians are abusive drug users, but is afraid to risk their friendship.
