Terry grew up the oldest of six girls where she attended twelve schools in eleven years as her stepfather moved his family often so he could continue to get work in the oil fields. Terry's mother was a free spirit, hardly ever at home, and she repeatedly left Terry in charge of the household and her five younger sisters.
