Memoir of Rebecca Carroll on what it was like growing up as an interracial kid in her rural New Hampshire town identifying as mostly black instead of white. Though she loved her adoptive parents greatly, things changed for the worse when she got older and met her birth mother, a young white woman, who she says undermined her blackness and sense of self-esteem.
