Rebekkah Barrow returns to her childhood hometown of Claysville for her grandmother's funeral and discovers that the worlds of the living and the dead are dangerously connected and that it was her grandmother's responsibility to make sure the dead were properly cared for in order to prevent them from coming back to satiate themselves with food, drink, and stories from the land of the living, and now that her grandmother is gone, it is Rebekkah's responsibility to carry on the tradition.
