Bucking the sun

Owen Duff, a civil engineer, is assigned to work on the Fort Peck Dam in Montana, a project that is born of President Roosevelt's New Deal, and must contend with his entire unruly Scottish-American family--brothers, sisters-in-law, and parents--while trying to tame the Missouri River.
