Mare Barrow, whose blood is red, like all common folk, but who possesses Silver-blood magical abilities, flees from the betrayal of Maven, formerly the prince and her friend. Now king, Maven becomes vindictive, vowing to put Mare and other Red-and-Silver fighters to work for his kingdom, or else be destroyed. Mare must use her abilities to protect herself and advance the cause of all who are like her, while toeing the line between being champion and monster.
